About Us

Our Story

Hispanic Counseling Services (HCS) was founded in 2016 after the tragedy of the massacre at Pulse NightClub in Orlando, FL. This catastrophe resulted in 49 individuals losing their lives and 53 others being physically wounded and hospitalized. The mass shooting occurred during Latin night and the majority of the victims were of Hispanic descent. Due to the need for crisis intervention, HCS began to provide services to survivors, family members, and individuals in the community that had been affected by the horrific terrorist attack, and did so in a culturally competent manner.

As best practice recommends, HCS started by meeting the clients where they were emotionally. Services were provided to clients in their homes in the client’s preferred language. Many of the sessions were with family members and took up to 4 hours allowing them to process the traumatic event and normalize their thoughts and feelings regarding the situation. HCS provided several services including, but not limited to, mental health counseling, case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, transportation services, community debriefings, consultations, advocacy, and trainings.
